Quick Fixes To Update Your Winter Look

The holidays came and went, and it's back to work for most of us. If you haven't fled the cold weather since winter started, and don't intend to anytime soon, you might feel like you're in the middle of a rut that could otherwise be remedied with a beach and a game of beach volleyball.

Snap back to reality -- you feel pasty; you feel bored; you feel like you're in a winter slump. That said, feeling good is the key to looking good, and when you infuse some style and new grooming habits into your routine, you might even want to delay your next holiday.

Cool accessories and stylish clothes can help, but it all starts with you.

Get a new hairstyle
When it comes to updating your image, a change in hairstyle is the place to start. If you're going to the corner barber who shaves or snips away at your hair in 10 minutes, then maybe it's time to consult an actual hairstylist -- you know, the kind you would find in an upper-scale grooming center or salon. A hairstylist will suggest a new 'do based on your hair type, facial features, image, and profession. If you already go to a hairstylist, then tell him or her that you want a new hairstyle and they'll surely be happy to oblige. It needn't be drastic -- cutting your hair a different way, adding layers, updating your length, or even using a new hair product can often do the trick.

Get a new facial hair style
This is something that's tough to change overnight -- unless you finally decided to shave off your beard or mustache. But you should never underestimate the power of letting go of facial hair that might have become your trademark.

What to get: If you're usually facial hair-free, then keep it natural by letting it grow for a few days -- but no sculpting. Sound simple enough? Okay, if that's too boring for you, grow yourself a "flavor savor" -- a thin strip of facial hair that falls right underneath your bottom lip. These are both no-risk options, after all.

Whiten your teeth
Tooth whitening is a phenomenon that has really taken off in recent years, and in my opinion, there is simply no reason to walk around with stained or yellow teeth. Today, you don't even need to whiten your teeth professionally, which is a good thing, considering the cost. Buy a do-it-yourself tooth-whitening kit and watch the results kick in.

What to get: Crest Whitestrips -- the easy strips must be worn twice a day for results that last up to a year. Whether you choose the 7- or 14-day package, tooth whitening has never been this foolproof. Now you have no excuse.

Get a tan
It looks and feels like you haven't seen sunlight for weeks. So if you have a special event coming up, like a wedding or a party, and want to inject some color into your otherwise pasty existence, visit a tanning salon to add some bronze to your look (I'm not talking about a full-blown golden tan, here). But an even more long-term, cost-effective, and safe suggestion is to try out self-tanning cream. I won't tell anyone...

What to get: I suggest Neutrogena's Instant Bronze Sunless Tanner and Bronzer in One for the Face, which guarantees no streaks and a natural-looking tan.
